IPSC Policy Positions

The following are the agreed policy positions of the IPSC:

Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS)

In view of:

  1. Persistent Israeli breaches of international law;
  2. Israel’s flouting of over 60 UN resolutions;
  3. The failure of EU governments to suspend the Euro-Med association agreement with Israel which affords Israel trading privileges and in accordance with that Agreement’s Human Rights clause (Article II) and
  4. The call for a comprehensive boycott of Israel by 171 Palestinian civil society organisations;

The IPSC calls for;

  1. Civil society to urge the Irish Government to take a lead in pressing for the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement,
  2. Civil society to implement a comprehensive boycott of Israeli goods and academic, sporting and cultural institutions representative of the Israeli state and /or supportive of its policies,
  3. A refusal to invest in Israel and Israeli companies and
  4. Sanctions to be imposed against the Israeli state and in particular that the Irish government, EU, UN, and all other international organisations suspend all forms of military, economic and political support to the state of Israel.

Anti-Semitism

The IPSC condemns all forms of racism including Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.

Relationship with other parties / groups
The IPSC is independent and non party-political. We seek to co-operate with and influence all political parties with reference to Palestine.

The Wall
The IPSC urges all states to abide by their obligations to enforce the ruling of the International Court of Justice which stated that the ‘wall being built in the Occupied Palestinian Territory’ is illegal, should be dismantled and people adversely affected should have their property and land restored to them and, in the event that this is not possible, compensated.

Palestinian refugees and the ‘right of return’
IPSC fully supports the right of return as specified in the UN Resolution 194 (1948). However this right of return does not absolve host governments from their responsibility to treat Palestinian refugees within their borders in accordance with established humanitarian norms. Thus, Palestinian refugees should be afforded full human and civic rights in whatever country they are located.
